Once upon a time, there lived two sisters named Hannah and Aubrey. Hannah was a dancer as well as a singer. She sang like a pop star and danced like Michael Jackson! She was a little arrogant, but she was a nice person. She was short, with long, brown hair, and wore spectacles. She was good at cracking jokes and drawing.
Aubrey was a calm, polite and happy person! She was short, with short, black hair. She liked to sing; she was very good at making jokes too. The best part was that she was an awesome inventor, but she was very bad at naming her inventions.
They lived in Paris; a street named Passage Coverts. It was a bright day. They got up in the morning and did some refreshing exercises. It was the first day of their holidays, and they were excited to watch the candy show that was going to happen in the city.
They got ready for the show and soon, they both rushed to the queue at the show. It was so long! They both stood in the queue for a long time. After standing there for a while, they began to get bored. There were so many people there.
Aubrey said, “They were selling balloons, tattoos, popcorn etc! It’s very tempting out there!”
“Yeah, but if we step out from the queue, we will be pushed to the back of the line again!” said Hannah.
“Hmm, yeah!” Aubrey added.
They were able to see the Eiffel Tower from where they stood! However, whatever was around didn’t matter. The candy show was bright and shiny.
Slowly, the line got shorter. First to enter the candy show was Aubrey, with Hannah following her. They walked in. There were two different rooms- on one path, they saw a plain door with no decoration on it. On the other path, they saw a door fully decorated with candies.
The second door was more attractive than the first one, so they went inside the second room. As they both went in, the door banged shut! They stared at each other and started blaming each other for making the wrong choice. Suddenly, they heard loud thunder. They both turned back- it was a huge chocolate waterfall! They both were so scared that they sat down by the falls. Aubrey said, “Now what will we eat?”
“And what will we drink to survive?” added Hannah.
They both were very hungry. So, they went in different directions to find food, but they couldn’t see anything to eat! They were so tired. They blamed and shouted at each other and then sat apart.
After sometime, Hannah started crying as she was very hungry. Aubrey came near her and hugged her. They both understood something important- UNITY IS VERY IMPORTANT! And so they both started searching for food once again, but this time they searched together. They still could not find anything to eat. Soon they were tired and fell asleep.
It became morning. Hannah got up and suddenly said, “AUBREY, AUBREY! WAKE UP! I FOUND SOMETHING TO EAT.”
Aubrey said, “What?”
Hannah said, “When I woke up, I felt very sticky. I saw my hand and it was full of grass. I smelled it and it smelled like a green apple!”
Both Aubrey and Hannah were very happy. Suddenly, a loud voice said, “EVERYTHING HERE IS EDIBLE. YOU CAN EAT EVERYTHNG AROUND YOU!”
Both the sisters were very happy, but they had another problem. This time, it was the way to go out! The loud noise again spoke again.
“IF YOU NEED TO GO OUT FROM THIS ROOM, THEN YOU NEED TO ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS I AM ASKING YOU! IF YOUR ANSWER IS CORRECT, THEN THE WHOLE CANDY LAND WILL TURN GREEN, BUT IF IT IS WRONG THEN EVERYTHING WILL CHANGE TO RED! YOU MUST ANSWER CORRECTLY IF YOU WANT TO GET OUT, BUT THERE WILL BE ONLY THREE LIVES GIVEN TO YOU,” the voice replied.
Both the sisters agreed and said, “Let’s keep our fingers crossed!”
The first question was ……
“HOW IS CANDY MADE?”
Hannah: I know the answer for this! It is sugar- it is dissolved in water or milk. Then, it is boiled till it caramelizes.”
The Candy Land turned green; both the sisters were really happy.
Aubrey said, “Hannah you did it!”
The loud voice spoke again and said, “YES! VERY GOOD JOB, BUT DON’T BE OVERLY CONFIDENT!”
Question number two was ………
“WHO INVENTED THE FIRST CANDY?”
Both the sisters were so very worried because they had no idea about this! They gave the answer “Ancient Indians” a try.
The Candy Land changed its colour to red. The voice responded this time and said “SORRY! IT’S WRONG, SO YOU LOSE ONE LIFE!”
Suddenly, Aubrey said, “I know this one, my teacher taught us this! The answer is ‘Egyptians.’ Am I right?”
The Candy Land changed its colour back to green. Both the sisters were so glad.
The loud voice replied “NICE WORK!”
The third question was ………….
“VEGETABLES, FRUIT, OR NUTS WHICH HAVE BEEN GLAZED AND COATED WITH SUGAR ARE SAID TO BE __________.”
“It is candied, right? Our mom taught us,” the sisters said together.
The Candy Land remained green. Once again they were happy!
The fourth question was ………….
“IN WHICH YEAR DID THEY MAKE THE FIRST CANDY?”
Both the sisters were very happy because they knew the answer to this very well! Their father had taught them what it was.
“In the year 4-6 BC!” they answered.
Everything turned green the moment they answered, and the loud voice spoke once again.
“GOOD! BUT THE LAST AND FINAL QUESTION IS YET TO BE ANSWERED! HERE IT IS: “WHO INVENTED COTTON CANDY?”
The sisters were very confused. They thought for a very long time. They guessed the answer to be Forest Mars, but it was not the correct answer!
The Candy Land changed its colour to red again.
“YOU LOSE ONE MORE LIFE! YOU HAVE ONLY ONE MORE LEFT,” the loud voice said again. “THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE,” it said.
The sisters guessed one more time.
“William Morrison,” they said, because they both felt they had heard this name somewhere! Once again, the Candy Land changed its colour to green. They were so happy!
The loud voice said “WELL PLAYED!”
Both the sisters went out of the room and told each other they would never come to any show again! They both went home, and lived happily ever after!
