The Light Of Nosiness

Chapter One – AT THE HOSPITAL

Lexi was walking home on a stormy day, and the rain was pouring down hard! Needless to say, she was having a hard time walking back home. She suddenly noticed someone dressed in black following her!

To add to all the creepiness, he was also clicking pictures of her, (not that our little Ms. Lexi didn’t like clicking pictures. She had the “SELFIE QUEEN” tag to herself, along with “MISS NOSY,” “QUEEN BEE” and so on.) And don’t get me started on her list of boyfriends.

Anyway, where was I? Yes! So when the creepy follower/photographer clicked another picture, Lexi turned and looked directly into his icy-blue eyes. She was met with a huge flash, which blinded her into unconsciousness. However, little did the creep know that Lexi had recognized him. Lexi very well knew that it was none other than Tristian, her bodyguard – basically a bodyguard in disguise to keep an eye on Lexi while she walked home.

Yes, you heard right! She had a bodyguard which clearly implied her dad was filthy rich. She still liked to walk home, rather than go home in a car.

Well, it was Lexi’s choice to walk home, because Lexi was kind of a nosy brat, and liked to poke her nose in others’ business. Walking home gave her the chance to poke her nose into other shopkeepers’ businesses, and this, by the way, annoyed the shopkeepers a lot!

But alas, they couldn’t do anything because they were terrified by her dad’s power to get their shops closed! Anyway, that is enough backstory for now! Let’s get back to the present.

When Lexi finally gained consciousness, she found herself on a hospital bed, surrounded by a crowd of doctors, analyzing her state. When Lexi finally spoke, the only thing she wanted to know was what had happened to her.

When she asked the question, all the doctors, along with the nurses, and her dad, (with fingers laced into an unfamiliar lady’s hand) squinted at her. They looked at her like an irritated teacher looking at a child who asked her what chapter she was on, after the lesson got over!

Finally, her dad told her that she had been found lying unconscious on the sidewalk of the street. She was driven up to the hospital by Tristian.

It was the first time she wasn’t annoyed at hearing Tristian’s name, not that she hated him. However, he did what she hated the most – being guarded.

Soon, Lexi was discharged from the hospital. She returned to school and luckily, no one had heard about her incident. Ever since she had returned home, she had been feeling weird. She was able to hear many different voices in her head.

For instance, when she was at home, she kind of heard a voice which she concluded was her father’s. She heard him thinking, because it seemed like he wasn’t speaking.

“I HOPE LEXI IS ALWAYS SAFE! THE THOUGHT OF LOSING HER AFTER LOSING MARIE IS DEVASTATING,” Lexi heard him think once. Lexi almost teared up,  but her emotional moment was interrupted by a call.

Chapter Two – BACK TO SCHOOL

When Brent called, Lexi instantly answered the call with a bright smile, not letting him know that she had teared up just minutes ago. Soon, they both were engaged in a conversation about what had been happening at school during Lexi’s absence as Lexi was kind of the queen bee, (or should I say student authority of the school?).

She soon reached school with a smile on her face, eager to surprise her friends, and not to mention her boyfriend, Brent. She really did surprise him when she walked in on Cheryl and Brent sharing a passionate kiss against HER locker. She couldn’t stop herself from blasting both of them and also breaking up with Brent then and there!

When she was about to storm off, she heard those voices in her head, and this time it belonged to Cheryl, thinking “ONLY GOD KNOWS WHY LEXI IS ACTING SO SURPRISED! SHE OBVIOUSLY SAW THIS COMING. BRENT WOULDN’T WANT TO BE WITH SOMEONE AS NOSY AS HER. MOREOVER, SHE SHOULD’VE KNOWN THAT I NEVER WAS ACTUALLY HER FRIEND. I WAS ONLY WITH HER SO MY BILLS COULD BE PAID. NOW THAT I HAVE THIS MULTI-BILLIONAIRE DUMBO BY MY SIDE, I CAN FINALLY HAVE MY DREAM LIFE! TOO BAD THOSE TWO DUMB OLD FRIENDS OF LEXI’S DID NOT HAVE ANY PROOF TO DEFEND THEMSELVES. ALL THANKS TO MY ACTING SKILLS!”

She couldn’t hear her after that, but it was awfully overwhelming for Lexi to take in what she had already heard. She did not even want to hear that cheater’s thoughts!

Chapter Three – CHEERLEADING EXHAUSTED LEXI?!

Before Lexi knew it, she was feeling a pang of guilt in her heart for accusing her long-time friends (her best friends in fact) without properly investigating the problem herself!

To brush off all this guilt and let herself loose, Lexi always had the perfect getaway – dancing her heart out! Earlier, she used to let all her feelings out to her mum, but now that she was in heaven, she no longer needed to. It was as if the universe was dancing with her, for the first time.

The school speakers suddenly began to blare with information about cheerleading practice that was taking place after school. Needless to say, Lexi was on the cheerleading squad, and the coach’s favourite with her new friend, Ivy,  being the head cheerleader. Little did she know how the practice was going to go. Even before Lexi knew it, school was out. She had not only successfully poked her nose into many people’s business, but also avoided both Brent and Cheryl throughout the day. It was almost like they were too ashamed to look her in the eye, or at least Brent was.

Soon, she reached the studio to join practice, only to find out that the coach wasn’t going to join them. He was held up with important schoolwork, and she had been assigned to begin practice. She asked Ivy to start. Lexi had to admit that Ivy was in the mood to begin the new routine and perfect it for the football game (which was almost 25 days away!)

Soon, everyone was huffing, including Lexi. After all, they had been practicing for an hour and 45 minutes straight. Perfectly, as if on cue, the coach popped in her head at the very moment Lexi decided she couldn’t keep going. She gave them a much-needed break. Everyone looked happy, except for Ivy, and that meant yet another voice started talking to her, in her head.

Needless to say, it belonged to Ivy. In her mind, Ivy thought (more or less), “I HATE THIS COACH! IF ONLY OF SHE HADN’T WALKED IN at THE VERY LAST MOMENT, THEN LEXI WOULD HAVE FINALLY PASSED OUT AND I COULD’VE CONVINCED HER THAT LEXI WAS BECOMING WEAK! I WOULD’VE BECOME THE COACH’S FAVORITE. I AM SO SURE THOSE BRATTY FRIENDS OF LEXI’S WOULD’VE GONE TO THE COACH TO BRING HER BACK. I JUST DONT GET THE POINT! EVEN AFTER CHERYL AND I GOT THEM HUMILIATED BY LEXI, THEY STILL WANT TO BE AROUND HER TO HELP HER. ANYWAY, I AM NOT HERE TO WASTE MY PRECIOUS TIME ON THESE DUMBOS. I ONLY NEED LEXI TO GET FAMOUS, AND TO GET ADMITTED INTO A PRESTIGIOUS UNIVERSITY. ANYWAY, I DON’T….”

Lexi couldn’t hear after that. as the coach had approached her to discuss something.

Chapter Four – LEXI IS NOSY

That very day, after cheerleading practice, Lexi was headed towards the stores to chit-chat with the shopkeepers. She approached the first shop that caught her eye and soon, she started talking to the lady inside the shop. When she thought of reading the shopkeeper’s mind, she heard that lady’s voice in her head say “OH GOD! PLEASE SAVE ME, OR SHOULD I SAY ‘US’, AS IN THE WHOLE MARKET! PEASE SAVE US FROM THIS ANNOYING AND NOSY GIRL. ONLY IF SHE WEREN’T SO POWERFUL AND FILTHY RICH, I WOULD’VE KICKED HER OUT RIGHT NOW! I GUESS MONEY COMES WITH WORK, AND IF I WANT THAT MONEY FROM JOHN SMITH (Lexi’s dad) I WILL HAVE TO TALK TO THIS NOSY GIRL.”

The next thing Lexi knew, she was at home in her bedroom (which, by the way, was super untidy), dressed in her pajamas, and sulking over her life while feeling embarrassed.

She was embaraased to have her dad paying people to listen to her chatting on and on. It was only then that she realized she had to test Ivy to confirm if she was a gold-digger, and then also profusely apologize to Eva and Ann. She made a plan and decided to pretend that she had gone bankrupt. She decided to spread the word, so that she could find her true friends in school. The next day, when Lexi got up to go to school, she made sure she dressed as if there was a problem at home and like she was miserable. She decided to wear an old dress which gave a depressing vibe. She also made sure not to apply make-up, and Voila! She was ready!

Chapter Five – LEXI GONE BANKRUPT?!

As soon as Lexi reached school – this time, on a tattered old cycle – all eyes turned towards her! The whispers began. Some people also came up to ask her if everything was fine, and she answered with a dramatic sigh (which helped add a poor charm to her whole act.)

It wasn’t long before Ivy came running up to Lexi with a fake, yet super convincing, consoling smile on her face. Luckily, for Lexi, this time she could exactly read what was going on in Ivy’s mind. She went ahead with her plan, while Ivy was trying to say that everything will soon be fine, and that they might have to maintain some distance. However, in her mind, she was….. You know what? See it yourself!

Ivy thought, “ AH! I GUESS FINALLY MACKENZIE WAS ABLE TO SNAG ALL THE MONEY DETAILS FROM MR.SMITH. I KNEW I COULD TRUST HER TO DO MY WORK WELL. I NO LONGER NEED THIS NOSY DOUCHE. YAHOO!”

After hearing this, the first thing that came to Lexi’s mind was that Mackenzie was her dad’s new girlfriend’s name, and she had to alert him. She also decided that she was going to apologize to Eva and Ann for not trusting them, and was also going to ask them to help her wreck Cheryl and Ivy’s lives.

The school bell rang, interrupting her thoughts and notifying her that school had officially started. For Lexi, the school day dragged on forever, until it was finally recess. During recess, she had expected to sit with Ivy, but she found Ivy happily enjoying lunch with Brent and Cheryl at the table they always sat at!

This hit Lexi kind of hard. It made her tear up a bit, but not enough for people to see. Lexi boldly walked towards an empty table that wasn’t assigned to any group, and was considered to be an extra in the cafeteria. She was sitting in the corner and picking at a salad, when a group of three guys walked up to her. One of them (who looked like their leader) asked her if they could join her. She agreed bewilderedly and a faint smile crossed her face. Suddenly she realized the leader had a familiar face. It turned out to be her childhood friend, Dom.

They hadn’t met each other in years! Not that Lexi remembered how he looked, but she could never forget those deep blue eyes. Suddenly, all her old memories came flooding back to her, and then, before she knew it, they were engaged in a deep conversation about their childhood. Lexi couldn’t help but blush every time Dom glanced at her. Soon, they all became quite close to each other, especially Lexi and Dom!💗

Chapter Six – THE MASTER PLAN

With Dom and his friends at Lexi’s side, the next few days flew by, deciding how to expose Cheryl and lvy. Also, they needed to figure out how to kick Mackenzie out of Lexi’s dad’s life. Lexi also had to apologize to Eva and Ann.

They decided to finish Eva nd Ann’s apology first, then move on to exposing Cheryl and Ivy with their help. Lastly, with  Ivy’s help, they would expose Mackenzie. They were sure their plan would work – except for one small problem. Lexi realized that she had seen Dom somewhere else, because it did not feel like she was meeting Dom after a long time. She felt as if she almost saw him every day, and felt his vibe around her all the time. He didn’t give her the vibe of a long-lost friend. It wasn’t long before all her thoughts were interrupted by her dad’s call, asking her to come home soon. He had news!

Chapter Seven – DADDY’S GOT A SURPRISE FOR LEXI?!

After Lexi hung up, she was quite curious to know what was going with her dad at home. On her way home, Lexi kept making different guesses about what her father had done, but the worst guess she made (and didn’t want it to be the right one) was to go home to the news of her father and Mackenzie dating.

Mackenzie was one heck of a gold-digger, and would use her father for money. Moreover, Mackenzie was younger than her father! Little did Lexi know she had guessed right, and was in for one heck of a surprise.

As soon as Lexi reached home, she found Mackenzie lounging in their living room and her dad sitting at the dinner table, waiting for her. When Lexi saw him, she knew right away that she was in for some news she never wanted to hear!

As if on cue, her father asked her to settle down at the table, and to hear him out before making any kind of judgment. He started by telling her how Mackenzie was always around to help him at work and make him smile at least once a day, and Lexi knew exactly what this was going to lead to. She stood up.

“Daddy, I know you are about to tell me that you and Mackenzie have feelings for each other, and are considering dating each other. Honestly Dad, I don’t think she is a nice person, and I am not saying this because I am insecure about her taking up mom’s place. I am sure no one can take mom’s place. I really need to talk to you about something important, but only when we’re alone. Can we please go to my room, daddy?” Lexi said, boldly.

He hesitantly agreed and followed Lexi to her room. There, Lexi calmly started to explain what was going on in her life, and how she was able to hear other people’s thoughts in her mind. Lucky for Lexi, her dad understood everything and believed her completely! He also told her that he would look into Mackenzie, and teach her a lesson. He ensured Lexi that what she was about to do was something that needed a lot of courage, and that he was proud of her. With that, he left Lexi’s room, leaving Lexi with a huge smile on her face.

The very second her father left the room, Lexi rang up Dom and he instantly picked up her call. As soon as he heard the news that they had one less thing to do, he sounded kind of relieved. He was kind of dreading his part, and now he didn’t have to do anything! Then, they both started discussing the master plan, and agreed that Lexi should apologize to Eva and Ann the very next day, during recess. Now that no one knew the truth about her still being rich, (except for Dom, obviously), Josh and Adam thought they could easily talk to them without being noticed. As for Ivy, well, she started avoiding Lexi the very day she pretended to go bankrupt.

Chapter Eight – SORRY EVA & ANN 🙁

So, according to their plan, Lexi tried to approach Eva and Ann the next day. They did talk to her, but the atmosphere became super awkward. Lexi decided that she would hangout with them for the next few days and once she was able to tell them everything clearly, she would introduce the boys to them. Little did Lexi know that these few days were going to turn out to be many more, and that it would take them a long time to forgive her.

Lexi had already been hanging out with them for more than 15 days now, and it was then that Dom came up with an idea to fasten up the whole process.

Chapter Nine – WHAT IS DOM TALKING ABOUT?!

Dom suggested that he would throw a party huge party (well, that’s what they would make it sound like) and invite Eva and Ann. They would direct them to Dom’s house (they would get caught if they directed them to Lexi’s house), and when they arrived, Lexi would come clean to them, explain everything, and earn their apologies.

When Dom finally finished, there was a moment of silence. All of them started shouting, appreciating him, only to realize that they were being gawked at by the whole class, (and by the fuming professor standing at the other end of the class.) Luckily, the school bell came to their rescue, indicating the end of the day! After discussing a little more, they all came to a conclusion that they would have the party on Friday evening, because, according to Lexi, that was going to be the most suitable time for both Eva and Ann. They didn’t have basketball or yoga class on Friday. They also decided that they would only hand them the invitations at the end of the school day, on Friday, and make them think that it was a pretty big event.

It wasn’t long before Friday arrived, but the whole school-day dragged on forever. Finally, it was time to go home and Lexi rushed over to their lockers (which were really close to each other) and handed them the invitations, telling them that she had been asked to invite the both of them. She even told them what a big event it was, successfully getting them to agree to come along!

Chapter Ten – IT’S GETTING HOT IN HERE!

As soon as Lexi was done inviting the girls, she went back to the guys who were waiting for her at the school gate in their cars. These weren’t as expensive as Lexi’s cars, but they were still good enough. To not cause any drama for the day, she rang up her dad and filled him in on her reason for being late.

At this point she had to explain to the boys how she didn’t have a ride (she only had a cycle that day), and did not know Dom’s address. Dom was the first to offer her a ride and she immediately agreed. Moreover, she had been longing for some one-on-one time with Dom, and now she finally had her chance. Dom also looked happy at her instant reaction. Adam and Josh grinned and chuckled at Lexi and Dom who blushed profusely.

As soon as Lexi heard their chuckling, she broke eye contact with Dom and looked embarrassed. Dom did look embarrassed, but also kind of mad at both Adam and Josh for ruining that moment.

Soon, Lexi and Dom were at Dom’s car, with an awkward silence that had come over them both. Lexi made an attempt to turn on the video, but ended up starting some different kind of sound from the radio. It was then that Dom put down his hand to assist her to turn on a song, and when he was teaching her with his eyes fixated on the radio, their hands brushed against each other, and instantly, both of them pulled back their hands. They blushed, and soon the car journey also came to an end. It had turned out that Adam and Josh were going to take another 45 minutes, because they had to go home to pick up their clothes for the rest of the day.

After finding out about Adam and Josh, both Lexi and Dom blushed (in their minds this time) and then headed for the door, but to Lexi’s utter surprise, it was Dom who pulled out a key and opened the door.

It turned out that Dom was orphaned when his parents died, and now he had worked up his way into being able to buy the house that his relatives had been paying for. Even after his explanation, two questions bothered Lexi – 1. Whom did Dom work for? 2. Who were his relatives, who were mean enough to be able to leave him alone? But all her thoughts were interrupted by a shake on her shoulder from Dom, knocking her back into the present.

He had asked her twice if she wanted something to eat or drink, but all Lexi wanted to do was read Dom’s mind at that point. She did, after replying to his question and asking for raspberry juice.

“OH GOD! WHERE ARE JOSH AND ADAM?” he thought. “IF I STAY WITH HER FOR ANOTHER MOMENT, I MIGHT FALL FOR HER, AND SHE IS NEVER GOING TO FALL FOR ME WITH HER STATUS BEING THAT HIGH!  I’M A MIDDLE-CLASS ORPHAN!”

After this, Lexi did not want to hold her emotions back anymore. It had turned out that she had grown to be quite fond of Dom ever since they had met, and that she had a crush on him from the very day their parents made them meet each other. The very next moment, she walked up to Dom, who had changed into a fresh pair of clothes, and looked into his deep-blue eyes and held his hands in hers. He let her, as though agreeing that he felt the same way.

While all this was going on, Adam and Josh rang the bell, ruining their romantic moment. Lucky for them, as Dom had locked the door, Josh and Adam did not walk in on Lexi and Dom holding hands. As soon as the bell rang, Lexi and Dom jumped apart and Dom jogged up to the door to let in the boys in.

Chapter Eleven – REUNITING

When Adam and Josh entered the room, Dom looked both relieved and disappointed. Maybe he was kind of getting uncomfortable, but he also wanted to confess his feelings to her. He had no chance for the rest of the day as there was only an hour left before Eva and Ann arrived. Their palms were sweating like crazy, and they were all really nervous!

One hour passed off in a jiffy, and the doorbell rang! As soon as the bell rang, they all jumped in shock, and slowly returned to their senses. They decided that Lexi would be the one to open the door, as she could also quickly read what was going on in their minds. As Lexi slowly started crawling towards the door the bell rang again, startling Lexi. She finally opened the door, only to find Eva and Ann dressed in normal, everyday outfits, (not that it looked bad on them.)

Weren’t they supposed to dress up for the party? They both quietly walked in, leaving Lexi clueless at the door. After she closed the door, she finally looked at Eva and Ann and was about to zap them. Suddenly, both Ava and Ann replied in a stern voice.

“Lexi, don’t even try to zap us!” they said.

This caught Lexi off-guard. They both smiled smugly and said, “Hey girl, don’t look so surprised! We already knew that this wasn’t a real party, as there isn’t a single person in school talking about it. Moreover, why would anyone keep a party at this time? Also, did you guys forget that Brent is throwing a party today?” Ava was saying, and as she was about to complete her sentence, Lexi cut in.

“Guys, did I tell you my Eva & Ann are super cool, yet hot detectives?” she said with a smile.

This caused both of them to blush, but it was not only Eva and Ann who were blushing. Josh and Adam (who had started exchanging glances with the girls by then) started to blush too. Lexi was about to introduce all of them to one another, but the girls stopped her and told her that they all knew each other already. Turns out that Adam and Josh had actually gone to Eva and Ann’s to tell them everything.

They wanted to help Lexi faster, and now the only things left for Lexi to do were to firstly gush over what they had done for her, and secondly properly apologize to her friends for acting like a snobby douchebag.

To her utter surprise, they forgave her and told her that she had made good use of her power – mind reading – while grinning happily. That evening was spent thinking about how she was lucky enough to have such great friends.

That night, they all stayed over at Dom’s. Later, in the evening, Eva and Ann also suggested that they keep up the act and not talk to each other, so no one would suspect them. They also suggested that the homecoming dance, before the final exams were coming closer, was where they could expose both Cheryl and Ivy as gold-diggers.

Her dad had also gotten Mackenzie to tell the truth – a contract that she had signed with Ivy and Cheryl where Ivy got 60%, and Cheryl and Mackenzie got 20% each.

Lexi was quite happy after hearing this, for now she wouldn’t have to worry much about how to prove her friends innocent. But now, she had a completely different to-do list.

 TO-DO LIST:

  • Start studying for the exams!
  • Seal her friendship with her whole new big group of friends
  • Figure out a way to find out more about Dom
  • Go to homecoming with Dom
  • Confront Eva and Ann about their current love interests
  • Most importantly, try to be less nosy (actually she had become a lot less nosier ever since all this started. Eva and Ann had also appreciated her for the improvement)
Chapter Twelve – STUDIES FIRST! 🧐

A week after they had all reunited, everyone at school was talking about two things – the exams, which were a week away, and the homecoming, which was 21 days away.

All the six insomniacs (at least that’s what they called themselves, even though they knew it sounded dorky;  they loved it, and it suited them as they all hardly slept during the week) were way too determined to pass with straight A’s. It was the first time Lexi was actually studying properly, and when her dad saw her studying hard every night, he would smile to himself and encourage her to study more. He did not want to appreciate Lexi too much, just in case she became overconfident or felt too much pressure, but Lexi knew what her dad was thinking. Once she had unintentionally zapped her dad, and heard him think, “I AM SO PROUD OF MY DAUGHTER! I AM SURE IF HER MOM WOULD HAVE BEEN ALIVE TODAY, SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN JUST AS PROUD. I WANT MY BABY TO PASS WITH FLYING COLORS. I REALLY LIKE THAT BOY, DOM – TRISTIAN. HE’S BEEN DOING A GREAT JOB AND NOT LETTING ANYONE  KNOW HE WORKS FOR ME”.

When Lexi heard the last line, her whole world started spinning around with confusion, and she again saw that flash of light. Boom! She was out.

Luckily this time, when she woke up, she was at the very place she had passed out. When she was about to start analysing what happened the other day, she remembered that she had an exam to get to in under three hours!

 Chapter Thirteen – THE EXAM!

After skimming through their notes one last time, they went back to the examination hall to wait for the teacher so that the exam could start.

This was the first time Lexi did not have to play any lame games to find the answer for the MCQ’s. Overall, all the insomniacs did very well in their exams.

Now that their exams were over, there were exactly 7 days to the homecoming, and none of the girls or the boys had dates. All their hearts were stuck on one another, but Lexi still thought about Dom’s mention in her father’s thoughts.

Lexi decided that she herself would find out about the connection between Tristian and Dom first. She attempted to zap Dom, but somehow she couldn’t! She tried a few more times, but all in vain! She figured out that night, after passing out, her power had disappeared.

Lexi no longer needed that power, and so, was deprived of it.

Chapter Fourteen – WHO ARE YOU?

Lexi wasn’t one to give up so soon. That very day, after getting home, she texted Dom and asked him to meet her at her house within 10 minutes. She said it was really important. Dom was worried and replied over A voice note that he was on his way.

As soon as Dom came, Lexi welcomed him and took him by his wrist and pulled him into her room. There, she got Dom settled down on her bed and it was only then that she finally saw him properly. He looked extremely cute, with his untidy blond, white shirt and black hoodie. It was then that Lexi finally got back to her senses. Dom sneezed and she remembered why she had really called him. She finally confronted him. Their conversation got more and more intense by the second.

(Remember – Lexi-L Dom-D)

L- Dom, this might just be my mind blowing me off, and me overthinking, but I really need to ask you- DO YOU HAVE ANY OLD CONNECTION WITH ME OR MY DAD, OR WITH MY OLD BODYGUARD TRISTIAN?

As soon as Dom heard this, he froze and his face ran out of colour. He looked both relieved and ashamed at the same time.

D- Lexi please don’t be mad at me, and just hear me out once, ok?

L- [just nods]

D- Do you remember your childhood friend Dominic? That’s me, Dom- Beverley’s son. As our families were such great friends, after my parents died, your parents took it upon themselves to bring me up. They did not want to adopt me, because they did not want the one symbol of my parent’s love, which was me, to be changed or owned by anyone. They wanted my parent’s legacy to live on and not die. Also, none of my relatives wanted me! Your mom and dad got me a small apartment with a nanny very close to your house. She would live with me and take care of me, and also your mum would make visits and check on me. She saw that everything went smoothly. Until after Mrs. Smith passed away, there was hardly anyone who came to check on me! Only your dad came in once a month. I didn’t join your school before this semester started. I was the guy who was clicking your pictures that day, and I had put on Tristian’s disguise, ever since he left. Your dad was thinking about hiring me, because I asked him if there was a job I could do. So he tested my ability of following you with wearing Tristian’s contact lenses and his face mask. So I got hired, and your dad also got me the house I live in today. Ever since then, I have been your undercover bodyguard, which is one of my high school dream jobs.  I couldn’t help but fall for you and I have been wanting to confess it to you, and ask you to homecoming, but I was so scared you would reject me—

Lexi slapped her hand over his mouth and he looked embarrassed, realising what he had just confessed to Lexi. He liked her and wanted her to go to homecoming with him. Dom was sitting right in front of Lexi, panicking and waiting for her response at the same time.

L (calmly)- Dom, I feel the very same way about you, and I couldn’t help but feel an old connection with you! Also, don’t worry! I am not mad at you, and forgive you for hiding this from me.

D- So will you go to homecoming with me. to have lots of fun and sabotage those golddiggers? (he asked hopefully)

Lexi couldn’t help but giggle a little when he said the last line, and then she blushed for a minute or so. She clung to Dom’s shoulder and hugged him tight, whispering a yes into Dom’s ears. After that, Dom sounded really relaxed and happy. He hugged her tighter, and after a minute or so, he pulled apart.

D- Lexi, this might sound too much to ask for in a day, but will you go on a date with me to the Cipriani’s, now that everything is cleared and we don’t have any secrets between us?

Lexi cut Dom halfway and told him that there was still one thing she needed to tell him.

L- My power to read minds is gone! I don’t know how, but I can no longer read minds! I hope this won’t change anything?

D (laughing)- Of course not! Are you mad? I don’t like you for your power, or money or fame! I just like you for you. Ok?

L (smiling)- So does your offer for the date tomorrow still stand?

D- Obviously! So, is that a yes, girl?

L- Oh yesssssssss!

After all this, Dom left as he had some work at home. As soon as he left, Lexi Skyped Eva and Ann and filled them in on everything, and they both sounded really happy. It turned out that Lexi wasn’t the only one with the good news. Adam had called Ann up and asked her to prom, and they both had a heart-to-heart conversation too! She had said yes and he had also planned a surprise date for her!

Obviously, Eva also had gotten a date. Being the confident person she was, she went up to Josh after school and asked HIM to homecoming. He said YES too! Eva was taking him on a date to a restaurant the next day, and turns out they all had a date scheduled for the same day and time. Lexi also told them about her power being taken away from her.

Chapter Fifteen – IS IT A DATE, A DOUBLE DATE OR?– OH WAIT! IT’S A TRIPLE DATE!

There were just two minutes left for Lexi’s date and she was looking gorgeous in her little black ripped shorts, white crop top, along with her black gumboots and smoky eye make up. Lexi had her hair tied into a pretty half-ponytail. As soon as Lexi heard the car pulling up, she ran out. Lucky for her, Lexi’s dad was stuck in an important meeting, so she didn’t have a curfew either. As soon as Lexi went out, Lexi saw a pretty decent-looking Honda City pulling up. She didn’t mind that, because she loved the guy who was sitting in there.

Dom stepped out and opened the door of the car for her, and in awe, Lexi climbed in. Dom looked nice in black pants and a white t-shirt, paired with canvas shoes, and his signature “uncombed, shabby yet super cute” hair.

Soon they both were listening to Ariana Grande’s songs on the radio, but there was something different about the atmosphere. Dom had a suspicious grin on his face and Lexi had an unsettling feeling. It wasn’t long before they pulled over at Cipriani’s and to her utter surprise, Lexi found all of her other insomniac friends there. Adam was dressed in ripped blue jeans and a muted yellow shirt, along with gelled hair and black shoes. In one of his hands, he held Ann’s waist and Ann looked stunning too. She wore short black shorts, along with a neon yellow crop top, and two Dutch braids framed the top of her head.  Lexi found Josh dressed in a black hoodie and white pants, with Eva wearing an olive green short jumpsuit and a white belt laced around her waist, paired with a high ponytail.

Well, overall, they all looked really stunning. Soon, they settled in and had a great date. They had a lot of fun dancing, eating and having a lot of mocktails. They were clearly having a great time without any drama and were getting to be themselves throughout the night!

Chapter Sixteen – IN YOUR FACE, GOLD-DIGGERS!

It wasn’t long before homecoming eve came around, and as expected, all the girls gathered over at Lexi’s to pick dresses out of the many fresh pieces her dad had got them to choose from. Before they all knew it, they were ready and looked really pretty. There was Lexi in a beautiful strapless top which had a base of white and gold-coloured modern embroidery, with a muted, baby-pink, poufy short skirt and a nice pair of heels with a design that matched her top. She wore a high ponytail with a few strands of hair left out, intentionally. Then there was Ann. She chose to wear a turquoise-blue dress, with patterns on top, made with blue lace. She wore black heels and paired her outfit with a black clutch and loose hair. Then lastly, there was Eva. She had decided to wear a long, sleeveless indigo gown, with a French bun and natural make-up.

After getting dressed-up, Eva & Ann left, as the guys were going to pick them up from their houses. After the girls left, it was not long before Dom pulled up and Lexi started down the stairs. When she met her father, she discussed the plan with him one last time and went off to execute it at the prom.

As soon as they entered the prom, no one turned towards them. In all honesty, Lexi was used to having all eyes on her when she entered a room, but now that “SHE WAS NO LONGER RICH”, she hardly had anyone even notice her.

Then all the insomniacs arrived, and there were enough people around. Lexi rang up her father, who had patiently been waiting outside and asked him to do what they had planned.

Exactly two seconds later, the lights went out and all the lights flashed on to a projector, projecting Cheryl and Ivy making the deal about looting Lexi together.

Then came the video showing how they had decided to hire Mackenzie to steal all their dad’s money, and then all lights came back on to Lexi. She confidently went out, only to bring back Mackenzie and her father by her side. She asked Mackenzie to confess to everything, and luckily, she did.

Finally, after all this, Lexi confidently started speaking.

”All my fellow  classmates here today,” she said, “I want to apologize, thank and prove something to all of you. I very well know you all think of me as a nosy person, and maybe you all are right! But believe me, over the past couple of months, I have changed a lot, because of some unexpected angels in my life. Now we call each other friends. Also, as all of you just saw Ivy and Cheryl had set up my innocent friends Eva & Ann, making them look like gold-diggers! But the truth was Ivy and Cheryl were actually the ones who backstabbed me and stole my boyfriend. Moreover, I am going to finish by just saying that I am sorry if I ever knowingly or unknowingly hurt you or offended you.

P.S, my dad never went bankrupt, and all thanks to my new friends, I am no longer the girl I once was. Thank you!”

After saying this, Lexi went up to Cheryl and Ivy.

“Girl I could’ve slapped you hard, but you know what you are! Just not worth my time.” she said, and with that Lexi turned away and went back to her friends to enjoy the rest of her night.

It was only then that her dad noticed Dom and eyed him. Lexi stepped in and calmly told her dad she knew everything.

“Dad, I am proud of you! But are you ok if we both start seeing each other?” she asked him.

Mr. Smith gave her a comforting smile, and with a pat on her head, said, “Yes my baby girl! Obviously I have always wanted you to see him, but did not want to put any pressure on you!”

Soon, he left her to have fun and she did! After that much humiliation, both Ivy nor Cheryl weren’t able to gather up the courage to stay any longer and quietly left.

Chapter Seventeen – A NIGHT WELL-SPENT

Right after Ivy and Cheryl left, romantic music started to play, and Lexi and Dom turned towards each other and started to dance. They instantly got the flow and were dancing their hearts out. Then, there was one moment in which their faces were inches away. Dom looked at her lips, as though asking for permission, and when she smiled, he got the clue and closed the gap between them.

As for Lexi, everything felt like a dream in his embrace! She felt so free, light, and most importantly, happy! Lexi felt on top of the moon.

Just like that, the night was over. Within a span of two days, their high school experience was coming to an end.

Chapter Eighteen – HAVE WE GRADUATED YET?!

Miss Lexi Smith from class H321 had successfully graduated from Blueberry High school, Texas. She had secured 95/100, securing an A+.

And just like that, Lexi’s high school adventure came to an end. Right when Lexi and her friends were done taking pictures and making promises, Lexi suggested they go and hang out, and off they went…
